Getting the Most from a Service: What to Ask
Sometimes it is more important to know the right questions than it is to know the right answers.
Before you call an organization for information, or to find out if it provides the service you need, it is important to know what questions you are going to ask. It’s a good idea to:
- Write out your questions beforehand.
- Keep a pad and pen on hand as you speak to someone (in person or on the phone).
- Always ask with whom you are speaking, so if you have follow-up questions you can contact them again.
Once you have found a group or organization that can help you, CancerCare suggests you ask the following. These questions will help you get the most from what they have to offer you.
- How do I apply?
- Are there eligibility requirements? What are they?
- Is there an application process? How long will it take?
- What information will I need to complete the application process? Will I need anything else to get the service?
- Do you have any other suggestions or ideas about where I can find help?
These questions will help you be prepared, feel more secure about discussing your needs, and get the most out of the resources that are available to you.
